REST IN PEACE, Chickasha Community Theatre

September 28th, 2017 All Day - October 1st, 2017

Chickasha Community Theatre has a huge surprise in store for the community this Fall.

MARK YORK (Producer/Composer/Lyricist/Pianist/Arranger) grew up in Chickasha and Tuttle but has resided for many years in New York City. He just finished working on the 2017 revival of Hello, Dolly! starring Bette Midler and was most recently seen as Jim Dale’s sidekick-pianist on London’s West End at The Vaudeville Theatre and Off-Broadway in Just Jim Dale at Roundabout Theatre. Mark is also the personal pianist for the Tony Award winning and Folies Bergere Star, Liliane Montevecchi. He is the Executive Producer and Founder of The Ziegfeld Society, Music Coordinator for Jerry Herman. Mark is also the Arranger/Pianist and Musical Director for the award winning I’ve Got A Little Twist, the new hit Gilbert & Sullivan revue that he co-created with David Auxier which has continued to play across the US since 2009. He created the theme song for the new “Ziggy Bear” to be given to the cast of children of each new Broadway musical…in the same tradition of the “Gypsy Robe” on Broadway. This past July, Mark started a Musical Theatre Summer Program at the Narnia Festival in Narni, Italy.

Mark started playing the piano in his father’s church in Oklahoma at age 9. His own musicals include: Rest In Peace directed-choreographed by Baayork Lee; A Midsummer Night, The Odd Ducklings, Apple Annie, and 11 children’s musicals including Alice In Wonderland, Sleeping Beauty, Pinocchio and Heidi. His musical, Galveston! had two sold out runs in July 2003 and again in Sept. 2011. Mark’s Alice In Wonderland opened at the Madison Theatre in New York City in January 2016.  Mark is a native New Yorker from Oklahoma.

Rest In Peace is inspired by the life of Mertis York, who reinvents her life after losing her husband ….while turning a little funeral home in Tuttle, Oklahoma…from a place that mourned death into a place that celebrates life. Rest In Peace is a musical in the style of the Golden Years of Classic Broadway Musicals. Mame meets The Unsinkable Molly Brown.

Rest in Peace will be performed AT CHICKASHA’S OWN WASHITA THEATER September 28-October 1, 2017. Local talent will be cast. Mark is flying in to conduct auditions on Saturday and Sunday, July 8th and 9th, 6-8pm at the Washita Theater, 509 Chickasha Ave. There are multiple roles for adults, teens and children. Please have a prepared song to sing with or without accompaniment. When asked what he was looking for at auditions this is what Mark had to say in part; 1 - I want people to sing whatever makes them sound good. 2 - Since my style of composing is NOT pop/rock, someone walking in singing a song from RENT, SPRING AWAKENING or KINKY BOOTS will service them well…. Tell EVERYONE to stick to Classic Broadway. Songs that actually have TUNES. OVER THE RAINBOW works like gangbusters. I'll be listening to their voices and their honesty in their presentation.  Tell the kids to stick to SOUND OF MUSIC, ANNIE or OLIVER...songs with TUNES.  Of course there are many other options than the ones I mentioned.  3 - they can bring their own pianist, sing to a recording (either professionally made or homemade on their long as we can hear it) or sing acapella.  4 - PLEASE REMIND EVERYONE... You guys ARE the people in my show. There will be NO ACTING.....just BEING. No pretending to be British or a New Yorker or anything like that. This show is about US. Okies!!!! Loving, down to earth Okies!!! So I'll be looking to see how natural they are on stage and how they connect with an audience.

Mark your calendars now for this wonderful event. You’ll be humming your way out of the theatre! Singing, Dancing, Comedy…even Tap Dancing!
