We would like to thank the Oklahoma Arts Council for awarding Oklahoma Community Theatre Association (OCTA) with the Oklahoma Arts and Cultural Industry Relief Grant. We are the solo representative statewide organization for community theatres across Oklahoma in all things theatre. We host an annual youth conference on spring break and a biennial festival right here in our great state. This pandemic has grossly affected our abiltiy to host these events. In addition, this year we were to host the AACT Regional Festival in Duncan OK. However, due to the nature of social distancing and mask mandates, it is impossible to host such an event with an audience, cast and crew and follow safety guidelines.
This grant has allowed us to regroup by relocating our office to a virtual space and invest in better computer capabilities to keep our community theatres abreast of our activities. This is our 51st year in operation and it was painful to have to make this decision. In order to continue to exist we had to face many financial decision and make the best of this time and money.
In addition, we would like to express our gratitude to our Oklahoma State Government and The Honorable J. Kevin Stitt, our Governor, for investing $3 million dollars of Corona Relief, Aid, and Economic Securities (CARES) Act distributed through the National Endowment for the Arts to the Oklahoma Arts Council as its state partner.
